The Arado 96 was a German training and liaison aircraft. PI-OT was based at Herdla, West of Bergen during WW II, it was assigned to 1.gruppe/Jagdgeschwader 5. On 14 March 1943, on a mission to Sola, it got engine trouble. The pilot made a forced landing on lake Storavatnet, where it sank to a depth of 37 meters. On 7 November 1992, it was recovered from the lake and has been under restoration with the Flyhistorik Museum Sola ever since.

My best attempt at the finished side of the unique Ar 96 in the Berlin Technikmuseum. A very elegant aircraft compared to its American counterpart, the AT-6 / Harvard!

Oh, no. A terribly rare Luftwaffe advanced trainer, carefully restored at the Technikmuseum, and then they display it like this, with the good side in the dark, almost impossible to appreciate or photograph. I was very disappointed.

This magnificent strange exhibit looks this way as the remainder of the aircraft has been taken away for restoration. It is a composite of three aircraft, one recovered from a lake in Sweden, another from Sweden and the wings of an Avia C.2B. Built in 1943 this training aircraft in the Technical Museum should look fantastic when complete.
