The Arado 96 was a German training and liaison aircraft. PI-OT was based at Herdla, West of Bergen during WW II, it was assigned to 1. Gruppe/Jagdgeschwader 5. On 14 March 1943, on a mission to Sola, it got engine trouble. The pilot made a forced landing on lake Storavatnet, where it sank to a depth of 37 meters. On 7 November 1992, it was recovered from the lake and has been under restoration with the Flyhistorisk Museum Sola ever since.
