Based on existing Cierva and Pitcairn designs, in 1931 this was the first autogiro tested by the Army Air Corps at Wright Field for a possible role as a slow flying machine to observe enemy forces and control artillery fire, but it was found to have unsuitable performance

The USAAC needed an aircraft capable of flying very slowly for observation and control of the battlefield and the autogyro seemed to the ideal solution. However, it was soon discovered that these aircraft lacked the performance necessary for military applications and due to the inability to hover they were soon superseded by the helicopter. This example is on display at the National Museum of the USAF.
