Prior to participating in the 1994 JASDF Combat Skills Competition, 301SQ completely painted two of its F4EJ Kai aircraft in the forest camouflage of the F1 fighter planes that served as the hypothetical enemy. These aircraft were used as faker aircraft for advance training. The vertical stabilizer was even painted in silhouette to make it look even more like an F1 fighter.
