It was written off as destroyed when it crashed on 21 November 1948 30 miles South West of Tok Junction, Tanana Valley, Alaska, USA.

Undaunted, Morrow-Tait raised money for a replacement, Vultee Valiant NX54084, and they managed to complete the flight, landing at Croydon after one year and one day.
