After the original He 112 was rejected in favour of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, Ernst Heinkel refused to admit defeat and gave the He 112B designation to what was in fact an almost entirely new fighter. The V9 was the second prototype of the He 112B, which was exported to Hungary, Japan, Romania and Spain.
