'President Dwight D Eisenhower arriving in USAF [sic] helicopter.' Already in 1960 presidential helicopters were apparently airlifted overseas. This is probably the headquarters of the South Korean VI army corps, which Eisenhower visited on 20 June 1960. 147179 was one of seven HUS-1Z (later VH-34D) VVIP machines. Airframe noted at Carson Helicopters, Perkasie, Pennsylvania in 2001. The second helicopter belongs to HMR-162, then based at Okinawa, and the third to the presidential unit again, HMX-1. JFK's ride from Andrews after his arrival from Florida. One of seven HUS-1Z VVIP helicopters. Nikita Khrushchev enjoyed his flight in one in September 1959 and interestingly two were then delivered to the USSR. Photo by: Edward Clark / Life
