Paramaribo's smaller airport, Zorg en Hoop opened in 1952. PZ-TAG was registered in January 1958. It was one of two Aero Commanders registered to the Surinaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij (SLM). Both crashed in 1959. PZ-TAG flew into a hill near the indigenous village of Paloemeu on 6 October due to engine trouble in fog. The two fatalities were SLM co-founder Ronald Kappel and Vincent Fajks, a Polish pilot who married a Surinamese woman. The Paloemeu airstrip (SMPA) which they helped constructing was named after Fajks. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)
