Small powerful racer designed by Frank Barnwell and built to promote Bristol's Jupiter engine. The sole example is seen here fitted with its initial 510-hp Jupiter VI with cylinder head helmet fairings. It dropped out of the 1926 King's Cup race with fuel feed problems. Rebuilt for the next edition of that event as the Bristol 99A, it crashed on 26 July 1927 when its new turbocharged Jupiter VI failed just after take-off from Filton. The pilot, Capt Frank Barnard, lost his life.
