Built for the US Navy as 136579. Transferred to the Japan Navy as 4104 in 1957. Shipped to the USA in 1983 and allocated reg N3880N which was not applied. Used for parts at Hemet. Scrapped around 1993.

This Gripen has an image of a P-47D and a pilot under the cockpit. In the P-47 there is the text "FAB 4104" and under the P-47 image there is the text "TEN CEL NERO MAURA". This commemorates the first commander (Lt. Col. Av. Nero Maura) of 1º GAVCA that was deployed for combat missions to Italy during WWII. Nero Maura's P-47D 42-26450 after the war went back to Brazil and was reserialled 4104. Nero Moura flew 62 missions in combat and later became Brig.Gen. in the FAB. The Gripen, of that same unjt, has the same serial, hence these markings.

Ex Japanese military. Civil registration N3880N assigned but appears never to have flown as such. Scrapped at Hemet-Ryan.
