The indigenous L-70 Vinka first flew in July 1975 and entered service with the Finnish Air Force in 1980, replacing the SAAB Safir in the basic training role. The type was replaced in 2022 by the Grob 115E. Following withdrawal and a short period of storage, VN-7 was sold in the US and registered as N331SY in July 2023.
