Only 5 F2G-2 Corsairs were built. It was powered by a P&W R-4360-4 3000 hp. engine. Cook Cleland won the 1947 Thompson Trophy Race with this a/c. In the early 1950s Walter Soplata acquired this a/c for his collection. He sold it in 1999, it was restored to flying condition and was raced in the 2011 National Championship Air Races in Reno. On 7 September 2012, not long after this photo was taken, it was destroyed in a fatal crash at Valley City, North Dakota in an airshow practice.
