Lufthansa is undertaking the mother of all aircraft restorations in a hangar at Auburn-Lewiston Airport. Maurice Roundy's former Starliner has been stripped down to bare bones, with inspection and repair currently underway. No defect is too small to repair and the final product will be as close to the way she came out of the factory in 1957 as humanly possible. Restoration continues in 2017.

Missing her center vertical stabilizer, Starliner N8083H patiently awaits her fate, while her sister N7316C undergoes restoration inside the hangar in the background.

For obvious reasons, the flight engineer was a very important member of the crew!

For many years, half of the world's surviving Starliners sat in owner Maurice Roundy's back yard. N8083H c/n 1038 is in the background.

No glass cockpit here!

Wonder what it was like spending 20+ hours in this cockpit during non-stop flights from Los Angeles to London in the late 1950's.

1923-built Fokker C.IV converted to passenger role for a planned trans-pacific flight but it was damaged on take-off. Named "Pacific Era" and the intended route is marked on fuselage sides. Ex NR439.

Maurice Roundy has begun the restoration of his two L1649A's located at Auburn-Lewiston Airport.

This airplane was rescued from South America by Maurice Roundy. It stood derelict at Kenai, AK for many years.

The gorgeous DC-3 belongs to Mike Farray's Dakota Aviation Museum since 1993 and is seen here photographed at Maurice Roundy's Starliner Open House. It was still airworthy by 2005, but had been withdrawn from use at the owner's airstrip near Mason, NH by 2007. It was still there by 2022.

Maurice Roundy has begun the restoration of his two L1649A's located at Auburn-Lewiston Airport. 16C contributed two engines to the successful ferry flight of Maurice's third Starliner, N974R, last October.
