The FT-5 is the Chinese-built two seater version of the J-5/F-5, itself a copy of the Soviet MiG-17. Sri Lanka received two of these aircraft, both survive and have been put on display. One is at Vavuniya air base and this SFT-1302 (ex CTF-702) in the excellent Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) museum in Ratmalana.

This aircraft, believed to be the sole example ever used by the SLAF is ex 4R-AAU and was used for survey work. By 1980, it was retired and stored prior to refurbishment for the Sri Lanka Air Force in 1982. It was first reported with the museum in March 1993.

A new Dakota for the database, ex 44-77224 went to the Royal Air Force as KP254 in June 1945, and proceeded to India and Ceylon (nowadays Sri Lanka) as 4R-ACI by Air Ceylon, which used it until 1978. To CR822 with the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) and first reported on display here in March 1993.

A new Dakota for the database, ex 44-77224 went to the Royal Air Force as KP254 in June 1945, and proceeded to India and Ceylon (nowadays Sri Lanka) as 4R-ACI by Air Ceylon, which used it until 1978. To CR822 with the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) and first reported on display here in March 1993.
