This is the second of three prototype YA-7D Corsair IIs delivered to the USAF in 1968. It was also the last to use the P&W TF-30 engine of the Navy's A-7As; the Air Force opting for a more powerful licensed built Rolls Royce Spey. Used for type testing and on-going development flying at Edwards, it was retired in 1998. The DIGITAC (digital tactical aircraft control) titles were applied for the first totally fiber optic-controlled flight using a single-fiber flight-control system on March 24, 1982.
