Typical of the second generation of ultralight aircraft is this FUM Javelin, dating from the late 1980s. This one has a double-skin wing, but the first aircraft I ever owned was a Javelin with a single-skin wing. Talk about drag! This one also illustrates the rule whereby 95.10 category aircraft only need to display the aircraft's individual registration number without the '10' prefix or leading zeros.

This lovely, new Starlet is Kyneton-based. The cn gives the clue that it was homebuilt in Victoria and registered in the Experimental category. Registered on 24 January 2001.

Origially allocated N8274Z but probably never carried it, as this Model 210-5 was registered new in Australia on 13 June 1963.

Registered new on 8 August 2007.

This brand-new Storch is the 'S 500 LSA' model which features increased MTOW, to fit the Light Sport Aircraft category, and electric flaps. The attractive orange and purple scheme seems to be house colours for LSA models.

This simple but rather beautifully finished Mini-MAX (minimum cost-maximum fun) was built by my old mate Mike Grasso and registered on 1 February 1994, although he no longer owns it. Designed in the late 1980s by Wayne Ison, the Mini-MAX is still available in kit form today under the 'JDT Mini-MAX' name.

Presenting the amazing Condor Scnark! This is the 5th Snark designed and built by WB Barber in New Zealand, and the first 3-B, although the first two aircraft didn't have cns. Formerly ZK-JIU, imported to Australia, returned to NZ and re-imported to Aus. This one is the victim of a spelling error.

This beautiful homebuilt was barely six months old, having been registered on 24 June 2011.
