Built as an F-89D all weather fighter and later upgraded to F-89J standard. Displayed at the Hampton Aerospace Park.

One of 9 Kestrel FGA.1s built as development aircraft between the experimental P.1127s and the production Harriers, first flying in 11.64 as XS694, then being transferred to the US Army for evaluation as 64-18266. Apparently became the second NASA 520 when the first (ex XS694/64-18268) crashed, substantial parts from the latter being used to make it airworthy again for NASA research use at Langley. They also had NASA 521 (ex XS689/64-18263, now displayed at the nearby Virginia Air & Space Center

Having recently photographed this F-86 which remains at the Hampton Air Power Park near Langley AFB, I thought it was time to compare with my slide from the days when nicely displayed in original natural metal finish

This Sabre, one of 981 F-86D models convereted to 'L' specification, has been preserved since 1962, nowadays displayed in 37th FIS/14th FIW markings. When I last photographed her some 38 years earlier, she was still in authentic natural metal finish - see upload to follow
