This PT-13 as 42-17724 was based at Moton Field, Alabama during WWII and used to train the pilots that became known as the Tuskegee Airmen. The 'Spirit of Tuskeegee' is on temporary display at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center until ready to be accepted by the Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC).

The Messenger is the smallest manned aircraft ever used by the US Army and this example, the last remaining, is on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center. It was originally a Sperry Sport Plane but converted to M-1 configuration in the early 1960s. It is on display wearing the markings of the aircraft used in 1924 to make the first successful airship hook on and release in the air.
