Inbound from Cologne and Brussels on 16 March 1933, Imperial Airways' "City of Manchester", Capt F Dismore in command, diverted to Gravesend due to poor visibility at Croydon. During the following night it was torn from its pickets by a gale and suffered the severe damage to the rear fuselage seen in this photo. It was taken by road to Croydon for repairs a week later.
