One of only two surviving examples of this type. Retired in 1932 by Champion it wound up in a barn gathering dust until rescued by Steve Pitcairn, the designer's son, in 1982. He had Miss Champion restored to flying condition and flew her to Oshkosh in 1986. In September 2005, it joined the permanent collection of the EAA AirVenture Museum, where it is now on display as a prized example of early rotary-winged flight.

Built in the Curtiss shops at Hammondsport, New York, in 1912, the Curtiss Pusher Model E-8-75 was shipped to San Diego, California, and used for pilot training at the Curtiss facility on Coronado Island. The airframe was stored in a barn from about 1915 until discovered in 1940 by a CAA inspector who bought the remains. It was later restored and flew again in 1966 and was donated to the EAA Museum in 1969. A very important part of aviation history in this incredible museum!

The aircraft was destroyed on September 17, 1983, in a Pylon Air Race during the Reno National Air Races at Stead Airport, Nevada. In an attempt to avoid a collision at about 200 mph, the aircraft stalled and with only 35 feet of altitude it crashed hard. The engine and wings were violently ripped off, fortunately the cockpit portion remained intact, and the pilot escaped injuries. The aircraft went to the National Air Race Museum and was restored for static display, later it hung above a bar in the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada for several years. Eventually it was transferred to the EAA museum.
