The RAAF's Macchi MB326 trainers were to be replaced by the A10 Wamira, an indigenous designed two-seat, side-by-side turboprop trainer. A prototype had already been built when the project was shelved in favor of the Pilatus PC-9, having been designed in the early 1980s. Before being purchased by the Moorabbin Aviation Museum in 2019 to expand their collection of Australian-designed and constructed aircraft, the prototype was kept for many years at the RAAF Museum, Point Cook.
