XL444 first flew from Woodford in October 1961, being delivered in the all-white scheme to 27 Sqdn the following month but was apparently prone to technical issues, so spent a fair bit of time on maintenance. It was back at Woodford inh September 1964 for a refit before going to the Scampton Wing in June 1965. It served with 617 Sqn as part of the Scampton Wing before receiving the squadron's 'Dambusters' emblem in 1971 as seen here. Other units served were 35 Sqdn, 230 OCU and Waddington Wing. It was sold for scrap at the end of 1982 This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
