Originally a 1930s Luftwaffe airfield, this is best known as the former RAF Gütersloh, the RAF Germany base closest to the Iron Curtain. The last jets to operate from the 2250 m runway were the Harriers of No. 3 and 4 Sqn. In 1993 the British Army took over and Chinooks and Pumas continued to operate from here until 2014, in the later stages from a 600 m runway segment on the 09 side that can be identified here.
