Awaiting scrapping. RH Grant Trading set up a smelter at Tocumwal after World War II to melt down war surplus aircraft that had no civil application. As a former B-24 training base, Tocumwal could handle the largest aircraft in service with the RAAF. The smelter remained in operation until 1963 with Vampires and Meteors the final aircraft to be put through it. By then Tocumwal had become a civil airport. The nose door marked 793 on the photo of A77-31 is from A77-793 also scrapped at Tocumwal. This photo was added on 1 September 2025, and has since been viewed 87 times. |
