On 30 July 1972, this Yak-27R was added to the collection at Monino. The Yak-27 was developed as an interceptor and the Yak-27R was specialized in reconnaissance. The Yak-27R entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1960 and was intended to replace the subsonic Ilyushin Il-28 reconnaissance aircraft. However, despite the greater speed and altitude ceiling, it had less range. The Yak-27R was retired from service in the early 70s.
