These aircraft participated in the 1994 JASDF Combat Skills Competition. Around this time, JASDF F4EJs were in the process of changing their surface paint job from the official Gull Gray paint job to the official New Air Superiority Camo paint job. Aircraft No. 384 had a bluish-gray overspray applied over the standard Gull Gray paint job to resemble the new Air Superiority Camo paint job. The aircraft in the foreground is painted in the new Air Superiority Camo paint job. This photo allows you to compare the two paint jobs.
