After conversion from KC-97G to KC-97L by th addition of the jet engines, this Stratofreighter was assigned to the 106th ARG, New York ANG. It was sold as N2987W after withdrawal in 1987 and entered the museum in 1986 as a result of an exchange. Apparently during a later restoration, the tail of 52-2604 was fitted.
