Delivered as as AD-5N to the USN in 1954, this Skyraider operated with various Navy and Marines units, ending up with the Naval Weapons Center at China Lake. During testing at Eglin, maintenance personnel determined it had been overstressed and was no longer safe to fly. Since all nine A-1s at Hurlburt Field had been given to the South Vietnamese Air Force, this one was allocated for display at Hurlburt. Dropped from the Navy inventory in 1971, it was installed in the Air Park in 1972, painted in Vietnam-style camo as per my 1979 photo here This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
