NZ4013 sunk while under tow after it water-looped taking off from the Segond Channel during a rescue mission on October 11, 1944. The museum says the location of this photo is Emirau Island but there is no specific reference to a flying boat base there. The full photo does show a slipway. There was an airfield complex on the island that was used by the RNZAF. The island was captured from the Japanese in March 1944. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand
