AN529 joined No. 90 Squadron RAF in the UK. It soon became apparent the Fortress I was inadequate for use in Europe. The squadron and some of its Fortresses were despatched to Egypt and AN529 was among them. It was written off after a forced landing near Fort Maddalena, Libya, on November 8, 1941.
