University of Pennsylvania Health System established the PennSTAR air ambulance program in the summer of 1988 to serve patients in Delaware, New Jersey and central Pennsylvania. This 1985 model BK117 was test flown in Germany as D-HBMZ, then shipped to MBB Helicopter Corp at Brandywine Airport, PA and flew as N44932 prior to delivery to aero medical operator CJ Systems as N117CJ for use by the STAT Medevac and PennStar EMS programs. Air Methods bought CJ Systems in October 2007 and retired N117CJ in 2015. Metro Aviation now flies four helicopters for PennStar from three bases. This photo is copyright © Kenneth I.
