This was the sole prototype of a small 1936 fighter, designed to Air Ministry specification F.5/34 but built as a private venture, hence 'PVO'; the letter O identified Vickers in test registrations. The Venom performed quite well, powered by a Bristol Aquila engine of only 625 hp, but the Aquila was cancelled and larger radials did not fit.
