The Phönix D.I / D.II / D.III was an Austro-Hungarian WWI fighter based on the Hansa-Brandenburg D.I. Only a few D.IIIs were completed before the end of the war. Sweden purchased 17 Phönix 222s. Ten more were built under licence by FVM at Malmen in 1925-1926. In 1926 the type received the J1 designation for a fighter, although it was by then used only as a trainer.
