The Ar-66 entered service with the Luftwaffe in 1933 and served as a trainer until the latter stages World War II. This particular aircaft crashed into Lake Starnberg towards the end of WWII, although neither the cause/reasons why this happened nor the fate of the crew are known. The aircraft lay in 80 m of water for about 40 years until it was recovered from the lake in 1983. The hulk is on display at the Deutsches Museum - Flugwerft Schleissheim in the condition as it was found. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
