The Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) was the armed forces of East Germany up to 1990. This MiG-29A was assigned to Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 (JG-3) "Wladimir Komarow" at Preschen air base. The 668 made its first flight on 18 March 1988, and was delivered to the NVA in April 1988, and according to NVA data the aircraft only flew some 273 flight hours before it was delivered to the Luftwaffe on 3 October 1990 as 2907.
