Crashed on Nui Thi Vai Mountain, Vietnam, on October 18, 1966. Sgt Gordon Buttriss was awarded the George Cross for his heroic efforts in rescuing the trapped co-pilot from the burning helicopter, which was carrying 200 pounds of TNT. The UH-1 displayed at the Australian War Memorial as A2-1018 is actually A2-389. This photo was added on 7 February 2019, and has since been viewed 499 times. |
