N16891 was ex RAAF A65-60 and had been purchased by an American company, Stan Air, owned by Stan Booker was a colourful aviation identity. Booker sold the DC-3 to Jetair, an Australian start-up airline that was trying to get around import restrictions on airliners. In April 1970 the DC-3 was registered VH-EQN.
