Only extant Ki-61-II Kai on display at the Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots in Chiran. This Hien (Flying Swallow) originally had a bare metal finish during the war, along with a red '17' on the tail. Surviving post-war destruction by being retained as a USAF trophy, it was repainted in different schemes. The final paint job represents a Hien from 244th Hikō Sentai, which was the most famous IJAAF home defence unit based at Chōfu airfield under Maj. Teruhiko Kobayashi that shot down several B-29s.
