A wartime airstrip built by the French and greatly expanded by the Americans. A base in 1942-43 for USAAF B-17s, B-25s and B-26 and RNZAF Hudsons. Main role appears to have been as a staging post for aircraft heading to Australia or to the frontline in New Hebrides (now Vanuatu). Disused in peacetime and overgrown with vegetation.
