RAF Croft (later renamed RAF Neasham) opened in 1941 as a satellite to RAF Middleton St George (now Durham Tees Valley). As the base for a number of RAF And RCAF bobmer squadrons, it finally closed in 1946. Whilst a small number of light aircraft continue to operate from the site, the former airfield now stages major Touring Car and Superbike Championship races.
