This plane was built in 1922 and was the 44th example built of the Š-1/Š-2 series but was the 16th Š-2 produced, hence the reason that this plane is sometimes quoted as having different construction numbers. In 1926, Š.2.16 crashed at Nitra and underwent a difficult repair when it should have been decommissioned. Luckily for us, otherwise this rare example would not be on display today at the Letecké Muzeum Kbely.

The Letov Š-1 reconnaissance aircraft first flew in 1920 and the Š-2 was a re-engined version. 28 and 64 examples were built, respectively, and c/n 44 was the 16th Š-2, hence the reported serial; I'm not sure of the correct format. The aircraft wears the insignia of Aviaton Regiment 1 which was based here at Kbely.
