VP-22's original 22-P-10, serial 0875, was destroyed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. 2301 was damaged in the same raid but was repaired and flew to the Netherlands East Indies with VP-22. The squadron set up at Ambon Bay where it came under immediate Japanese attack. 2301 was sunk at its moorings on January 15, 1942. VP-22's three surviving PBYs relocated to Darwin and then to Perth. Most of its personnel then returned to the US and squadron was disbanded. Photo from: Library and Archives NT
