The helicopter once served within 63 flight of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as well as the multidimensional United Nations peacekeeping operation MINUSCA. With both mission it carried as UN registration UNO-316P. The helicopter was taken on charge as CH-596 by the SLAF on 4 December 1994. Became SMH-4302 by 2011 a fine dark green/dark brown camo colourscheme with a light grey underside. By 2014, likely after return from its UN duty, the Mi-171 became SMH-566.

Still wearing the colours of its service with the United Nations, code UNO-316P was allocated to this helicopter. This Mi-171 is seen here awaiting overhaul at the Aircraft Engineering Wing (AEW) of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), during an excellent base visit at Katunayake.
