Designed and built by Cliff Johnston of Hastings, New Zealand, a prolific aircraft builder. The sole Skybird was fitted with a cut-down 2-cylinder VW engine. It is believed the aircraft was destroyed in a testing accident before its first flight. JFT was cancelled from the register in 1998.
