In 1992 most C-82's and C-119's at Anchorage were sold to Hawkins and Powers and moved to their base at Greybull in Wyoming. A few C-119s stayed behind, but most of them later also departed to other airfields, such as Fairbanks or Palmer. This former Northern Pacific Transport N9027K (ex 53-8073) was the only one to remain behind at Anchorage, and it was still there by mid 2017.

Gloomy Chugach Mountains looking down on the Northern Pacific Transport "apron" at Anchorage. It shows a typical Alaskan aviation scene as it existed up until the early 1990s, with a lot more tail fins than aircraft. On the right there are three C-82 Packets (left to right: N9701F, N8009E, N5102B) and on the left three C-119 Flying Boxcars (N9027K, N8505A, N8504Z). Stuck in the middle of all this military surplus is Reeve Aleutian YS-11 N171RV.

A major target for me after Google Earth checks; tantalisingly within view of the show area but off limits (determination paid off). Morocco received 18 Flying Boxcars from the US in the 1960s, some being ex-RCAF C-119Gs. This '862' is from its former USAF serial, 53-7862. Colours a bit suspect (note white-wall tyres!) but well done to the Moroccans for preserving her. Most in their service had USAF-style silver/white top colours. One other survives at Kenitra, possibly a third elsewhere.

About 40 Flying Boxcars remained in service with the Indian AF till the early 80s. This one, with Hindustan-built BS Orpheus jet booster pod for better performance at high-altitude locations, was ex 53-4646. One of two Iskras displayed is visible at the right
