An early Go 242 glider in Greece in September 1941 - the first deliveries were only in August. This was after the airborne invasion of Crete and the 1500 Go 242s built were mostly used for resupply flights, which seems terribly inefficient. Photo by: Edward-Josef Petertil / ECPAD

One plane! The amazing Zwilling (twin) was two He 111s joined together, with a fifth engine in the middle, to produce a powerful glider tug. A dozen Zwillings were built or converted. Flying characteristics were not too bad apparently but operational use was minimal. This aircraft towed two Gotha Go 242 assault gliders from Istres, France, to Pomigliano, near Naples, on their way to the fighting on Sicily. Photo by: Eugen Gremelsbacher / ECPAD

At the time of upload displayed at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. The museum is adamant that the correct serial is 500200, saying that is what was revealed when the aircraft was stripped of paint during restoration. Some sources claim it is 500210. This aircraft had been tested at Farnborough postwar as VP544, Shipped to Australia in December 1946.
