This Fw from II/JG 300 'Wilde Sau', flown by Fw. Hubert Engst was part of a formation that attacked B-24 Liberators returning to Italy after a raid on the refinery at Pardubice. Engst shot down B-24H 42-52479 'Little Lulu' but miscalculated and overshot the doomed bomber allowing the nose gunner to score a direct hit. The fighter burst into flames forcing Engst to bale out before his machine crashed into a pond near the village of Otín and immediately became subsumed in 5 m of clay. In 2011 the remains were excavated and are now on display in the museum at Jindřichův Hradec.
