Only a small marking on its engine bay reveals the origin of this Army Aviation Black Hawk, the 2nd Battalion (Assault), 82nd Aviation Regiment named "Corsair".

This aircraft belongs to a small and secretive fleet that supports American special operators around the world, including the shadowy Joint Special Operations Command, or JSOC. N80BZ is one of the US Special Operations Command's Tactical Airborne Multi-Sensor Platforms, or STAMP aircraft. The Beech is a dedicated intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platform but has a special task in locating and monitoring hostile communications transmissions, like geo-locating emissions from cell phones. In that way the US Army can track particular individuals and spoof spoof wireless networks.

Four A-10s at their revetment parking spots at Kandahar. The large concrete walls protect the aircraft for indirect fires, like rockets of mortars. When such a weapon impact the platform or revetments, hopefully only one aircraft will be damaged. The 104th Fighter Squadron "Baltimore Oriole" is a unit of the Maryland Air National Guard, 175th Wing stationed at Baltimore/Martin State (MD), also named Warfield Air National Guard Base, Middle River. Some Blackhawks are marked with a Red Cross, making clear that hostile fire is no appreciated into the direction of this flying ambulance. This Blackhawk was on alert at the tiny airfield of Tarin Kowt in Uruzgan province of Afghanistan.

As part of an urgent need to improve intelligence gathering in Afghanistan, the RAF commissioned an initial four Shadow R.Mk1s, based on the King Air 350CER, under an urgent operational requirement. Delivered to V(AC) Sqn in 2009, the Shadow features an underfuselage electro-optical sensor turret, a variety of integrated sensors and extensive communications capability, managed from operator consoles in the cabin. Number V(AC) Sqn's Shadow flight became 14 Sqn in 2011, after the former Tornado unit disbanded at RAF Lossiemouth, and was based at RAF Waddington.

The 184th Fighter Squadron "Flying Razorbacks" is a unit of the Arkansas Air National Guard, 188th Fighter Wing, that is based ar Fort Smith Air National Guard Station (AR). The 184th swapped their A-10Cs for unmanned MQ-9 Reaper in June 2014. Here two Thunderbolt IIs are seen in between their revetments at deployment location Kandahar airfield, Afghanistan. Also visible in the picture is 78-0659/FS.
