An overview of Eelde during the official opening. On the left, you have some tents and aircraft, which are better seen in my other photo. It would appear that that area was for pilots, crew and people of status. On the right, it would appear that a more general viewing area was created. Unfortunately the original is a bit blurry and I'm unable to read the registrations. Even though unidentifyable, a bunch of Air Force Fokkers can be seen. The opening was celebrated with an airshow, which attracted 40.000 visitors. Photo from Gert van Lingen

The official opening of Eelde. PH-AEB is a Fokker F.VIIa of the KLM. Amongst the other visible aircraft are PH-AKA (Pander EF 85 c/n 27), PH-AFX (Pander EF 85, c/n 38), PH-AFM (Pander EG 100, c/n 33), D-1212, D-746 and D-1668. I'm unsure of the identity of the remaining 4 aircraft. A special mention for the PH-AEV, a Pander EC 60 (c/n 25/II) that was owned by Hajo Hindriks. He is considered the founder of the airport, as he initiated the creation of the airport. Sadly, he lost his life as a result of a crash about 2 weeks after the airfield opened.
