At rest in stunning evening light at Grass Valley Air Attack Base, Nevada County Airport. Taken on charge by the US Navy in 1962 as a Grumman S2F-3S, 152825. Re-designated S-2E later in 1962. Converted to an S-2G. Retired to storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ in 1975. Transferred to the US Department of Agriculture as N522DF in 1996. Converted to a turbine powered firebomber by Marsh Aviation. Returned to the USDA Forest Service as N425DF in 2001. Allocated to the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CDF), operating as "Tanker 89". This photo is copyright © David A.
